The Delhi High Court today ordered the South Delhi Municipal Corporation to take immediate steps for removal of garbage and alleged illegal encroachment from the green belts around the Lajpat Nagar Metro Station area.

"The Petitioner has placed on record several photographs of the area which is shown as a green area and from the photographs it is appears that the same has been left in complete neglect with collection of garbage and encroachment thereon," a Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Sachin Datta observed.

The Court was hearing a writ petition filed by Residents Welfare Association in Lajpat Nagar through Advocate Anjana Gosain.

The plea highlighted lack of maintenance and illegal encroachments in the green areas situated between Lajpat Nagar Metro Station and Moolchand Hospital on Feroz Gandhi Road.

Advocate Ajay Digpaul ,appearing for SDMC, informed the Court that this area was given to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to raise constructions of metro line. The counsel for DMRC in turn sought time to seek instructions in the matter and report back within a week.

Accordingly, the Court directed the Respondents to file their respective status reports before next date of hearing. It also direct them to take whatever steps are necessary for removal of the alleged encroachment and garbage and for restoration of greenery by the next date.

"Remedial steps taken in this regard shall be placed on record," it added.
