The Delhi High Court has sought the Delhi Government' response regarding the procedure required to be followed by a woman suffering from serious illness and seeking directions on the State to provided her free medical treatment, after allegedly being deserted by her husband and in laws.

Justice Rekha Palli granted one week's time to the Delhi Government for filing an affidavit setting out the names of the concerned hospitals where free treatment can be availed and the procedure required to be followed by her in the matter.

Apart from seeking a direction to the Delhi Government for providing her free medical treatment, the plea also sought directions to her in laws and husband for reimbursing the amounts spent by her on her treatment.

However, Advocate Ashok Kumar Gahaloth appearing for the petitioner on instructions submitted that he does not press the said relief and that appropriate proceedings against husband and in laws will be initiated in accordance with law.

Earlier, the Court had asked the Delhi Government to verify whether the petitioner woman would be entitled to avail free treatment in a hospital run by it.

Subsequently, a status report was filed by the State after a verification was carried out by the concerned SHO confirming that the petitioner is a resident of Delhi.

On the submissions of the NCT of Delhi that the petitioner is free to avail medical services in any hospital run by it without payment of any charges, the Court ordered thus:

"He prays for, and is granted, 1 week's time to file an affidavit setting out the names of the concerned hospitals and the procedure required to be followed by the petitioner for seeking free treatment."

The matter will now be heard on August 26.
