Disciple Rape Case| Gujarat Court Convicts Self-Styled Godman Asaram Bapu, To Pronounce Quantum Of Sentence Tomorrow

A Court in Gujarat's Gandhinagar Court has convicted self-styled godman Asumal Sirumalani Harpalani (popularly known as Asaram Bapu) in the 2013 disciple rape case. The Court is set to pronounce its order on the sentence tomorrow.

The Court has acquitted six others including his wife, son, and daughter in the matter. Asaram is presently serving a life sentence in Jodhpur’s Central Jail in connection with a separate rape case, in which he was convicted in the year 2018. He was presented before the Gandhinagar court via video conferencing mode.

A girl from Gujarat's Surat district, a devotee of Asaram had alleged that she was repeatedly raped by him 10 years ago in his Ahmedabad-based ashram. Asaram was arrested by Rajasthan Police in the year 2013 and he has been in jail since then.
