    A Divisional Judicial Seminar and Refresher Training Programme on New Criminal Laws for judicial officers of the Durg Division was held at the District & Sessions Court, Durg on April 11, 2026.

    The seminar witnessed participation from judicial officers across Durg, Kabirdham, Rajnandgaon, Balod and Bemetara, focusing on strengthening judicial functioning and adapting to evolving legal frameworks. The programme was graced by Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, along with Justice Rajani Dubey and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal, Judges of the High Court of Chhattisgarh.

    In his address, the Chief Justice emphasised that judicial officers must be well-versed with statutory mandates governing electronic records and highlighted the importance of effective implementation of new criminal laws and timely justice delivery. He also stressed the growing relevance of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in reducing pendency and maintaining public trust.


    A key highlight of the seminar was the unveiling of the publication “Mediation 2.0 – IAISAGR: Mediation Strategy Model for Durg”, aimed at strengthening mediation and promoting amicable dispute resolution within the judicial system.

    The inaugural session commenced with a welcome address by Shri K. Vinod Kujur, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Durg, followed by an introductory address by Smt. Nidhi Sharma Tiwari, Director, Chhattisgarh State Judicial Academy, who outlined the objectives of the programme and emphasised the importance of continuous judicial education.

    Technical sessions featured detailed presentations by judicial officers from various districts on key aspects of judicial functioning. Topics included execution proceedings, cheque dishonour cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, admissibility of electronic evidence under the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, and procedural aspects under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

    The seminar also included a refresher training session on new criminal laws, covering the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, focusing on their practical implementation and impact on the justice delivery system.

    The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Prashant Parashar, II District & Additional Sessions Judge, Durg, acknowledging the contributions of the dignitaries, judicial officers, and organising team in ensuring the successful conduct of the seminar.
