    The Ministry of Law & Justice recently informed the Lok Sabha that there is no plan to bring in any law to restrict the representation of persons holding high office of Government or judiciary into legislative domain.

    The aforesaid information was provided by the Law Minister in response to a question regarding election of former judges to state legislatures/ Parliament.

    The following questions were raised by MP M.K. Raghavan:

    "(a) whether the Government maintains any data regarding the number of Judges and retired bureaucrats getting elected to legislatures of States and the Parliament since 2013, if so, the details thereof and its likely impact on the separation of powers among the three wings of democracy; and

    (b) whether the Government plans to bring in any law to restrict the representation of persons holding high office of Government or judiciary into legislative domain, if so, the details thereof?"

    Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju responded that the Government does not maintain any data regarding background/ profession/previous employment etc. of the candidates getting elected to State Legislatures and Parliament.
