    The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the State Government to evolve a scheme on the line of directions issued by the Delhi High Court in the case of New Friends Colony Residents vs Union Of India (Uoi) And Ors, for rehabilitation of monkeys causing difficulties to citizens of Bengaluru by entering residential localities, in search of food.

    A division bench of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Suraj Govindaraj said "The Delhi High Court has issued several directions for dealing with a similar issue, which arose in the limits of Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Directions issued keeping in mind the duty of state to ensure safety of human beings and keeping in mind the welfare of animals. While protecting citizens from the menace of monkeys entering into residential areas the state will have to ensure that monkeys are not hurt in any manner and monkeys are shifted to their natural habitat."

    The court while hearing a petition filed by B S RADHANANDAN directed the state government to convene a meeting of senior officers of forest department as well as senior officers of concerned department of BBMP for purpose of evolving a scheme on the line of directions issued by Delhi High court, in the aforesaid order.

    The compliance report is to be filed by July 5 by filing a statement of objection or memo giving details of the scheme evolved for dealing with the issue. The matter will be next heard on July 8.
