The Delhi Government has informed the High Court that it is evolving a transparent, uniform and hassle-free admission process for children under economically weaker section (EWS) category in private unaided recognized schools.

A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad was also told that a portal has been developed displaying the number of vacancies, and that the parents can apply online for the vacancies available under the admission quota.

The court thus disposed of a public interest litigation filed by an NGO Justice for All for directions to ensure admission of over 44,000 children belonging to the economically weaker section and disadvantaged group under the provisions of Right to Education Act, 2009. The plea also sought monitoring of the admission process.

"However, the Respondent/GNCTD is directed to ensure that the statutory provisions and the rules thereunder are strictly complied with," the court said, while observing no further orders are required to be passed in the case.

The counsel appearing for the petitioner earlier submitted that about 50,000 children in the national capital are awaiting for admissions under the quota meant for EWS/DG category under RTE Act.

The counsel claimed that the schools are not filling up the vacant seats and that the Delhi Government also was not ensuring compliance of section 12(1)(c) of RTE Act.

On the other hand, Delhi government told court that it will ensure compliance of the statutory provisions contained under Delhi School Education Act, 1973 and Delhi Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011.
