A 55-year-old ex-service attempted suicide inside a courtroom of the Bombay High Court soon after he lost a case against his mother under the Maintenance and Welfare of the Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007, and was directed to vacate the house.

Soon after Justice PD Naik pronounced the order, instead of following his lawyer out of the courtroom, the man removed a paper cutter and attempted to slash his wrist.

"I was standing right behind him and saw that he was up to something. The moment I noticed the blade I immediately held his hand and restrain him. Later on, the police told me there were three injuries on him," Advocate Mahesh Rawoo said.

The ex-service man was subsequently detained by the Mumbai police.

He approached the Bombay HC in 2018 under Article 227 seeking to set aside an order of the Senior Citizen's Tribunal. The tribunal had directed his ouster from the house.

However, the HC granted him ad-interim relief against coercive action. According to Rawoo, the HC upheld the tribunal's order.

It may be noted that the scanning machines are presently non-functional at the Bombay HC.
