    Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday, passed a resolution stating that lawyers will continue to abstain from work on 11th & 12th September as the State Government is not attending to the grievances of the lawyers regarding the Hapur Incident.

    High Court Bar Association, Allahabad and Oudh Bar Association, Lucknow have passed similar resolutions declaring that lawyers will abstain from work on 11th September as the Police has refused to lodge FIRs of the lawyers against the alleged erring policemen who were involved in the beating of advocates in Hapur.

    "We have seen that the men in black robes have always stood against injustice , it was men in black robes which contributed at large to the freedom struggle and for the framing of the rule book of fundamental rights and duties, i.e. our Constitution," a resolution said.

    On 4th September, the bench comprising Chief Justice Pritinker Diwaker and Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi had taken suo moto cognizance of the Hapur Incident and the call for abstaining from judicial work by the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh. The Court had issued specific direction to the Superintendent of Police, Hapur to ensure that complaints lodged by the advocates be duly registered and investigated.

    Thereafter, on 9th September, in a special sitting, the High Court had taken formed a judicial committee comprising of Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta (as the Chair), Justice Rajan Roy, Justice Mohd. Faiz Alam Khan, Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh or his nominee, Chairman, Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh and President, High Court Bar Association for the addressing the grievances of the lawyers.

    Further, the Court has directed that the interim report of the SIT instituted by the State be filed before the Court on 15th September.
