"Lack Of Money Is Not An Answer": High Court Pulls Up Delhi Government Over Failure To Pay Salaries To Teachers

Pulling up the Delhi Government over its failure to pay salaries to the teachers, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday orally remarked that lack of money is not an answer for such non payment.Justice Subramonium Prasad was dealing with a bunch of contempt petitions filed by various teachers involving the issue of non payment of salaries to them in accordance with the 6th and 7th Central Pay Commission."How can teachers be treated like this? They shape the future of the country," the Court told the counsel appearing on behalf of the Directorate of Education, Delhi Government. They are forced to file litigation, then they are dragged to the Supreme Court, then contempt; it keeps going on.""I don't want a "we are implementing", I want a "we have implemented".The Court has now posted the matters for final disposal on Monday at 2:30 PM, while asking the Directorate of Education of the Delhi Government to submit a list of all the teachers who are similarly placed.Recently, Justice V Kameswar Rao observed that the employees of an unaided private school are entitled to the benefits as being given to the employees of the government run schools.The Court allowed their pleas which sought directions on the school to pay to petitioners the amounts wrongfully deducted from their salaries from the month of June 2020 and onwards till date.
