    A Full Court reference, through virtual mode, was held today to mourn the sad demise of Shri Ramakant Sharma, Senior Advocate and former Chairman, Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh and other Advocates of the State who lost their lives on account of COVID-19.

    Acting Chief Justice Ravi Malimath and Judges of H.P. High Court, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice Sureshwar Thakur, Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Justice Sandeep Sharma, Justice Chander Bhusan Barowalia, Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua and Justice Satyen Vaidya were present at the Full Court Reference.

    Speaking on the occasion, Acting Chief Justice Ravi Malimath said that Shri Ramakant Sharma was a soft spoken, honest, hard working person and it is very difficult to encompass in a few words his distinguished career.

    Acting Chief Justice added that death of a lawyer is death in our family. "We have lost 16 lawyers in our family due to COVID-19, most of them were budding lawyers, who had a bright future ahead of them", he said.

    Acting Chief Justice offered his deep condolences on the sad demise of Advocates, Shri Rama Kant Sharma, Sh. H.P. Singh, Sh. Guljar Singh Rathore, Sh. R.K.Chauva, Sh. Pardeep Sharma, Sh. Chhatar Singh Thakur and Ms. Veena Devi from District Shimla.

    He offered his deep condolence on the demise of advocates of District Kinnaur, namely, Shri Harish Chander Negi and Sh.Naseeb Singh Negi.

    The Acting Chief Justice also offered his deep condolences on the sad demise of Advocates Shri Vijay Mohan Dutt, Sh.Hari Ram Verma and Shri Aseem Sharma from District Solan, Shri R.K.Handa from District Bilaspur, Shri Beli Ram Rana from District Kullu and Shri Suresh Thakur and Shri B.K. Sood, Advocates from the District of Kangra at Dharamshala.

    The Acting Chief Justice assured the members of the bereaved families that the entire judicial family stands by them in their crisis. Hon'ble Acting Chief Justice quoted the saying of Thronton Wilder "The highest tribute to the dead is not grief, but gratitude" and said that the legal fraternity of the State is eternally grateful to the departed souls for their rich contribution and their dedication in securing justice for their clients.

    The Advocate General Shri Ashok Sharma, Chairman of the Bar Council of H.P. Sh. Ajay Kochhar, President of the H.P. High Court Bar Association Sh. Nareshwar Singh Chandel and the Assistant Solicitor General of India Shri Balram Sharma also addressed the Full Court reference and paid tribute to Sh.Ramakant Sharma.

    Two minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

    The Registrar General Sh. Virender Singh conducted the proceedings. The other Registrars of the High Court, were also present on the occasion. The Advocates, officers and officials of the Registry watched the live telecast of the virtual Full Court Reference.
