    Two of the ten judicial officers whose names were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on Wednesday for elevation as Judges of the Madras High Court are husband and wife, reported the Hindu.

    Murali Shankar Kuppuraju, presently serving as the Principal District & Sessions Judge at Tiruchi, and Thamilselvi T. Valayapalayam, posted as the Registrar (Judicial) at the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, were married in the year 1996.

    The couple was promoted to the cadres of sub judge, district judge and then principal district judge at the same time, in different districts, as per the information given to the news agency.

    They shall now be sworn in as HC Judges together, if the recommendations are approved by the Central Government.

    Mr. Kuppuraju obtained his degree in law from the Government Law College in Coimbatore in the year 1990. He joined the Tamil Nadu State Judicial Service at the entry level as a District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate in 1995. He was posted as the Principal District Judge in June last year.

    Ms. Valayapalayam obtained her degree in law from Puducherry and joined the judicial service in the same post as her husband in 1995.
