The Delhi High Court has sought details from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi regarding the illegal constructions near Qutub Minar in South Delhi.

The Bench of Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva has also directed the Municipal Commissioner (South Zone), Delhi to fix the responsibility of the concerned officers who were supposed to monitor the area and who have permitted these illegal/unauthorized constructions to be carried and submit a report.

The Bench also ordered that the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (South Zone) shall remain present on the next date of hearing.

The Court was dealing with a plea filed by one Rinku Kaushik way back in the year 2018 alleging that a "vast illegal and unauthorized colony" was being developed on government land adjoining Qutub Minar and "six storeyed and above height buildings are being constructed there".

It was contended before the Court that despite repeated directions by the Court, the officers of MCD permitted the illegal/unauthorized construction to be carried out and the buildings to be completed.

The plea also alleges nexus between the builders, politicians, police officials, officials of the municipal corporation and other local bodies in allowing the construction of a building near Qutub Minar at a rapid phase and flats being sold.

"Let a status report along with complete details of properties which have come up in the vicinity of the Qutub Minar unauthorizedly be filed along with the action taken supported by the photographs," ordered the Court after noting the submissions of the petitioner.

The Court also ordered to ensure that none of the properties are permitted to be occupied, if not already occupied.

The matter will now be heard on August 10. Advocate Prateek Kumar appeared for the petitioner.
