Advocate Vijay Aggarwal has been arrested in London over allegations of sexual assault, the Times of India has reported.

Reportedly, the criminal lawyer, who has been representing fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi, was booked for four sexual assault offences against two women and was arrested from a luxury townhouse in London.

Aggarwal is reportedly charged under Section 3 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

As per this provision, a person commits sexual assault when he intentionally touches another person B, the touching is sexual, wherein the other person does not consent to such touch and the accused does not reasonably believe that the other person has consented.

A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum or both. On indictment, the accused can be imprisoned for a term not exceeding 10 years.

Reportedly, Aggarwal's personal assistant is also charged with two counts of intentionally encouraging or assisting the commission of sexual assault offence.
