In the wake of the recent devastating cloudbursts and flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir, the High Court of J&K and Ladakh has contributed Rs 54,40,500 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) to support rehabilitation and welfare efforts for affected families affected by the recent floods in the region.

The contribution follows an order issued on 29 August 2025 by the Office of the Registrar General at Srinagar, pursuant to an appeal made by the Chief Justice. The order had called upon judges, judicial officers, and staff of the judiciary across J&K and Ladakh to make financial contributions according to their positions.

    As per the order:

Judges of the High Court were to contribute Rs 20,000 each; Similarly, District Judges were to contribute Rs 10,000 each; Civil Judges (Senior Division) Rs 7,000 each; Civil Judges (Junior Division) Rs 5,000 each; Gazetted Officers of the High Court and District Judiciary contributed Rs 5,000 each; Non-Gazetted Officials contributed Rs 1,000 each.

The Registrar Judicials and Principal District Judges were directed to collect and deposit the contributions into the designated High Court Relief Account, after which the Registrar General issued a consolidated cheque to the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.

On Monday, the High Court formally presented the cheque of Rs 54.40 lakh to the Chief Minister, stating that while the amount may be modest, it reflects the heartfelt solidarity of the judicial fraternity with those who have suffered due to the floods.

“The collective action of all stakeholders is essential to rebuild lives and restore normalcy in the flood-ravaged areas,” the Court emphasized.

The judiciary observed that the donation symbolizes its commitment towards public welfare, particularly in times of crisis. The recent floods have displaced many families and caused extensive damage to homes, property, and livelihoods, severely impacting the socio-economic fabric of the Union Territory.

By stepping forward with this contribution, the judiciary of J&K and Ladakh has reaffirmed the principle that unity and compassion are the strongest tools in overcoming adversity.
