'Day Not Far When Lawyers Won't Need To Carry Files': Jharkhand High Court Launches Android App, QR Directory For Enhanced Judicial Accessibility

The event, graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries including all Judges of the High Court of Jharkhand, the Advocate General, Jharkhand, Additional Advocate Generals, Additional Solicitor General, Deputy Solicitor Generals, Chairman of the Jharkhand State Bar Council, and distinguished members of the legal fraternity, was aimed at furthering accessibility and transparency within the justice dispensation system.

Addressing the gathering, Acting Chief Justice Shree Chandrashkhar highlighted the transformative impact of technology on court proceedings while emphasizing the need to bridge the digital divide. He commended the efforts of the High Court in significantly reducing case pendency, with 24,769 cases disposed of between January 1, 2024, and April 30, 2024.

"With only 19 Judges who constitute five Division Benches and nine Single Judge Benches, the High Court of Jharkhand strived hard towards bringing down the pendency of cases," remarked the Acting Chief Justice. He underscored the importance of efficiency, citing a notable clearance rate of 138.41% during the period, leading to a commendable reduction in total pendency.

Justice Ananda Sen, Chairperson of the Computer and Digitization Committee, High Court of Jharkhand, elucidated on the functionalities of the newly launched Android App.

Justice Sen mentioned that developed in-house by the technical team, the app offers a range of services including case status, cause lists, orders, judgments, e-filing, and access to over 3,51,622 final orders and judgments through e-HCR. Justice Sen also highlighted the significance of the QR directory, which will facilitate easy access to e-services for litigants.

"the day is not far away when lawyers need not carry files and journals to the court room and can appear in the court paperless. At present two courts are running paperless in High Court of Jharkhand and the case proceedings of one court is on live streaming," asserted Justice Sen.

The program commenced with a welcome note by Mohammad Shakir, Registrar General, High Court of Jharkhand, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Biresh Kumar, Central Project Coordinator, e-Courts Project, High Court of Jharkhand. The proceedings were skillfully compared by Ms. Tanvee, Deputy Registrar Judicial, High Court of Jharkhand.
