Executive Chairman of J&K Legal Services Authority Justice Sanjeev Kumar Inaugurates Legal Cell & Medical Camp At Pahalgam Court Complex

In a significant event held at the Pahalgam Court Complex, Justice Sanjeev Kumar inaugurated the newly established Legal Cell aimed at providing legal assistance to the public. The event also saw the inauguration of a Medical Camp for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2025 and the First Aid Cell for the pilgrims.Following the inaugural ceremonies, a cultural program featuring traditional folk songs and dances was organized at the Pahalgam Club. Students from various schools participated, showcasing their talents and celebrating the cultural heritage of the region.The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Chief Guest Sanjeev Kumar, District and Sessions Judge Anantnag, Tahir Khurshid Raina, Member Secretary, Shazia Tabassum and Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Anantnag Fozia Paul. Justice Sanjeev Kumar delivered a keynote address emphasizing the importance of legal aid and healthcare services for the community.In his keynote address, he emphasized that legal aid clinics are a vital mechanism to reach the last person in need of justice, acting as a bridge between the general public and the legal system. With over 218 legal aid clinics across the region, he encouraged citizens to approach para-legal volunteers for help in drafting applications, seeking legal direction, and ensuring follow-ups with authorities.He strongly asserted that no public officer should disregard a citizen's query, and reaffirmed that the High Court stands firmly behind legal aid volunteers and panel advocates.Highlighting the benefits of Lok Adalats, Justice Kumar described them as a win-win forum for all parties, helping to save both time and resources. He candidly acknowledged the issue of judicial delay, attributing it in part to the low judge-to-population ratio and significant case pendency. He explained that while the creation of new courts is beyond the judiciary's control and lies with the executive, alternative solutions such as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) are being actively promoted to tackle delays.Concluding his address, he reiterated the judiciary's unwavering commitment to serve the poor and marginalized, stressing that justice must be accessible, inclusive, and prompt for all.In his address, Principal District and Sessions Judge Anantnag, Tahir Khurshid Raina, stated that no remoteness, economic condition, or social barrier should become an obstacle to justice. He emphasized that Legal Aid Clinics are meant to give marginalized individuals initial guidance, pointing them to the appropriate remedy and legal course.Referring to the over 4 crore pending cases across the country, he remarked that the institution of judiciary remains vigilant, and initiatives like today's event manifest that justice is not a slogan but a reality being pursued on the ground.The event was attended by staff members of the District Legal Services Authority, who were commended for their efforts in serving the community.
