Karnataka Lawyer Seeks FIR Against Kangana Ranaut For Tweet Calling Protesting Farmers 'Terrorists'

An advocate in Belgavi, Karnataka, has submitted a complaint to the police seeking to register a First Information Report against actor Kangana Ranaut alleging that she has called protesting farmers "terrorists" in a tweet.The complainant, an advocate named Harshvardhan Patil, has sought for action against the actor for provocation, prompting enmity between different groups and so also for criminal intimidation and for intentionally insulting farming class with an intent to provoke breach of peace. The complaint has been submitted to the police inspector of Tilakwadi Police Station, Belagavi. The complainant states that he belongs to a reputed farming family at Belagavi and his family both maternal as well as paternal families are owning farm lands both at Belagavi and Kolhapur respectively. The complaint reads as "As the government of India has promulgated three farm laws which are being opposed by several farmers from different parts of India and which has become a bone of contention between the government and the farming community. People like Kangana Ranaut who do not possess any knowledge about farming activities and the problems faced by our farming families are involved in making unwanted and unwarranted comments on the entire farming community of India time and again." It adds "Kangana Ranaut who is heard to be an actress instead of sharing compassion towards the farming community is addressing them as " Terrorists " etc." It is claimed that complainant on February 4, when he was reading the New Indian Express, he came across an article wherein he noticed that Kangana Ranaut through her twitter account has made, published and circulated a statement thereby addressing our farming community as " Terrorists who are trying to divide India so that China can take over our Vulnerable Broken Nation and make it a Chinese colony much like USA ". The complaint says "By making such statements Kangana Ranaut is trying to provoke and incite the other citizens of India to attack and assault the farming community and their families posing them to be traitors." It is also said "If her statement is read keenly or meticulously it can be seen that by addressing our Nation as "Vulnerable broken Nation". Kangana Ranaut has also insulted our Indian Armed forces and their capabilities and capacity. Her statements are not only causing insult and annoyance to the farming communities and their families they are also giving cause for annoyance to our Armed forces who have kept our country secured from any so called vulnerabilities." The complainant has urged the police to take a serious note about the acts of Kangana Ranaut which has been widely published in various newspapers from different publication houses and requested to book her for Acts under Section 153, 153A, 503, 504, 505(1), 505(b), 505(c), 505(2), 506 of IPC. The complaint prays to initiate an appropriate legal action against Kangana Ranaut for causing insult and annoyance to the entire farming community and our Nation as well as our Armed forces as soon as possible so that the harmony, heritage, unity, integrity, social fabric etc of our great Nation and its farmers and Armed forces is secured.
