Karnataka Govt Appoints 42 Additional Government Advocates, 27 High Court Government Pleaders

    The Karnataka Government has appointed 69 law officers, including a notable number of women advocates, to represent the State before the High Court.

    The appointments comprise 42 Additional Government Advocates (AGAs) and 27 High Court Government Pleaders (HCGPs), based on recommendations made by the Advocate General's office.

    The tenure of the newly appointed law officers will be one year from the date they assume charge.

    The appointments came into effect on June 15, 2026, according to the government notification issued under Rule 23 of the Karnataka Law Officers (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1977.

    After Siddaramaiah resigned from the Chief Minister's post on May 28, the former Deputy CM D K Shivakumar now leads the state government as Chief Minister. The notification appointing new law officers have been issued after DK Shivakumar has begun his tenure as the 18th Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3.

    Previously, Karnataka government had announced key appointments to the office of the Advocate General, appointing two State Public Prosecutors, two Additional State Public Prosecutors, and 13 Additional Advocate Generals to represent the government.
