The Karnataka High Court has directed the Central and State Governments to ensure proper implementation of schemes launched for providing housing to eligible siteless/houseless urban and rural BPL/EWS families belonging to various categories of weaker sections of the society.

The bench issued the direction while hearing a petition filed by Advocate Mohamed Ikbal seeking a direction to the respondents to provide housing to eligible siteless/houseless urban and rural BPL/EWS families belonging to various categories of weaker section of the society within a period of 1 or 2 years, based on the seniority list and pass any such order in their interests.

The state government filed its statement of objections giving the details of various schemes launched by the Central Government as well as the State Government on this regard. It was stated that under these schemes, whosoever, who is eligible and fulfils the criteria prescribed, applies has been benefited and has been given houses.
