    The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) on Friday (September 17) organized a special campaign to create legal awareness amongst the common citizens.

    As per a press note issued by the Authority, "On the request of the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, on 14-09-2021 NALSA issued a direction to carry out a special campaign across the country on 17-09-2021. Immediately, the Member Secretary, KSLSA interacted with all the Member Secretaries of DLSAs and TLSCs in the State and directed them to organize a special campaign to create legal awareness amongst the common citizens."

    The special campaign conducted by the legal awareness institutions in the State involved:

    - Deployment of the Mobile Vans and showing films/documentaries about the various Access to Justice programmes under implementation;

    - Holding legal aid clinics/camps where pre-litigation / legal advice was given to common citizens with the help of Panel lawyers and Paralegal volunteers;

    - Creating awareness at the village level about legal aid programs, both through virtual mode like YouTube medium and physical mode while following social distancing protocols.

    The note states that 974 mobile vans were deployed for organizing the programmes and 387 legal aid clinics/camps were conducted and a total of 1953 legal literacy programmes were organized in a single day. "Conducting such a mammoth legal literacy programme on a single day is a record-breaking performance by the Legal Services Institutions in the State," the note states.

    Acting Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma of the Karnataka High Court, Patron-in-Chief of KSLSA and Justice Aravind Kumar, Judge, Executive Chairman, KSLSA, appreciated the efforts of all the Member Secretaries of DLSAs, TLSCs, all the Judicial officers, panel advocates, para legal volunteers and other stakeholders of Government Departments.
