Deepak Suicide Case: Kerala Court Grants Bail To Woman Who Accused Him Of Sexual Harassment In Viral Video

The Kozhikode Sessions Court on Wednesday (11 February) granted bail to Shimjitha Musthafa, who has been charged with abetting the suicide of one U. Deepak, a salesman, by accusing him of sexual harassment in a viral video.
The order was pronounced by Smt. Bindukumari V S, District & Sessions Judge, Kozhikode.
Shimjitha is accused of abetting suicide of Deepak, whom she has accused of sexual misconduct on a moving bus in Kannur. Deepak committed suicide on January, 18, after a video was shot and posted on social media by Shimjitha, alleging that he touched her inappropriately on a crowded bus.
The clip was widely shared on social media platforms. The family of Deepak alleges that the subsequent online harassment led to Deepak's death by suicide.
Following a complaint from the family, an FIR was registered on 19 January and Shimjitha was arrested on January 21 by the Kozhikode Medical College, Police.
Earlier, the Judicial First Class Magistrate, Kunnamangalam had denied her bail.
Following the arrest of Shimjitha, the President of the All Kerala Men's Association has moved the Kerala High Court seeking an investigation by an independent agency into the suicide of Deepak, which is pending before the Keraala High Court.
