Actress Manju Warrier has moved a suit against filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, Marunadan Malayali journalist Shajan Skariah and Meta before a court in Kerala to remove and restrain defamatory and derogatory posts and videos made against her on social media.

The Third Additional Munsiff(RCC), Ernakulam Smt. Reeja R Nair on Saturday (September 19) issued summons to them and posted the case to November 5 next.

As per the plaint, Sasidharan made certain unwelcome romantic interests towards the actress, which she firmly rejected. However, even then, he continued to repeatedly call her and sent messages causing distress to her and prompting her to approach the police, it is stated.

Subsequently, Sasidharan was arrested and released on bail but he made false and defamatory allegations against Warrier that she was involved with a married man, it is stated.

"Through this scandalous statement, the first Defendant [Sasidharan] falsely suggests that the case registered against him was engineered at the instance of a "sex racket deeply rooted in the Malayalam film industry". This innuendo directly associates the Plaintiff [Warrier] a reputed actress with an unblemished career, with immoral and criminal circles, thereby imputing unchastity and a lack of moral character. The statement not only maligns the Plaintiff's reputation but also subjects her to ridicule, contempt and public suspicion, particularly within the film fraternity and among her audience," states the plea.

It is further stated that Sasidharan made a false statement that Warrier's lawyer approach him to negotiate a settlement to withdraw the criminal case against him.

Manju has prayed for an injunction to direct Sasidharan to delete or permanently disable access to all defamatory posts, videos and audio recordings published through his Facebook account/Youtube channel or other online platforms.

She has sought an injunction against Skariah to remove and permanently disable access to a defamatory videos disseminated through his FB page and other platforms.

She has further prayed for an injunction to restrain the two from making any such new posts/videos.

The suit is moved by Advocate Santhi M., Prasanth K., Ranju Mohan, and Mohammed Ashiq R.S.
