    The Kerala High Court Advocates' Association recently inaugurated a scheme under which the lawyers will be able to purchase laptops (on EMI-based loans) for a very minimal down payment of Rs. 2,050.

    This will enable all Advocates to avail the facility of e-filing and virtual hearings of courts, without being hindered by their inability to possess technological gadgets.

    Salient features of the scheme are thus:

    • Laptops can be obtained for a very minimal down payment of only Rs. 2,050/-.
    • For Junior Members, (those between 1 to 7 years of practice and is below 35 years of age), this down payment is subsidized by the KHCAA Junior Lawyers Welfare Fund.
    • They will have to furnish a surety, who shall be a Life Member of the KHCAA with at least 15 years of standing.
    • The system provided is Dell Vostro 349J with an Intel i3 10th Generation processor and 8GB DDT4 RAM.
    • Laptops shall be available at a special price of Rs. 35,297 (including Kerala Flood Cess) whereas its actual price is Rs. 59,512/- on Dell Webstore and Rs. 46,644/- on other e-commerce websites.
    • There will be additional onsite service facility provided by the Kerala High Court; Licensed windows and Licensed Office Home will also be provided.
    • A member who avails the loan facility shall have to pay the balance amount in 36 monthly instalments of Rs. 1,097/- each.
    • The specifications are designed to provide seamless video conferencing facility with 14-inch HD screen, 720 P HD Camera and WLAN + BT, 3 Cell 42 Wh Battery.

    The Scheme was inaugurated by Justice Anil K. Narendran, Judge, High Court of Kerala, in presence of Adv. Philipose Thomas, Chairman, KSFE and Adv. Lakshmi Narayan R., President of the KHCAA.

    T.K. Ajithkumar, Secretary, KHCAA has informed that they are planning more such schemes for giving assistance to the members based on how successful this project is going to be.
