The Kerala High Court on Tuesday took note of the reports stating that two women were abducted and killed as part of a black magic ritual at Elanthoor Village in Pathanamthitta, and expressed its shock and disbelief at the news.

Justice Devan Ramachandran wondered where the State was heading to, while referring to the incident.

"Some of the things happening here are beyond the limits of absurdity. Today it is human sacrifice. I wonder where Kerala is going," the  court observed

The incident pertains to the abduction, dismemberment and burial of two women, who were lottery vendors, as part of a ritualistic sacrifice. While one of the women was abducted from Kalady in June, the other went missing from Kadavanthra, subsequent to which a case was registered on September 26. The two middle-aged women hailed form Ernakulam.

Three persons Muhammed Shafi alias Rasheed; Bhagaval Singh, and his wife Laila have been arrested in the case. It is alleged that Shafi persuaded the couple to go for human sacrifice, while claiming that it will bring them prosperity. The two women were allegedly killed by the couple, as per media reports. Reportedly, the body parts of the women were buried in the couple's backyard.

Today, the Court said that in the pursuit for modernity, the State was getting distracted and people had started behaving in strange ways. The court made the remarks while discussing the report about the incident with bar members.
