The Madras High Court Judge, Justice R. Subramanian last week recused from hearing a case after the lawyer arguing before him remarked that he (Justice Subramanian) shouldn't hear the case like 'Thanjavur Landlord'.

Thanjavur is a district in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu and is famous for the 11th-century Brihadeeswarar Temple.

Observing that he didn't deserve this remark, Justice Subramanian directed the registry to place the papers of tge before the Chief Justice for posting it before some other Court.

"..learned counsel appearing for the petitioners would contend that I am under obligation to hear him as per the socialistic idea and not as a Thanjavur Landlord. I deem it as a remark, which I do not deserve. Therefore, I do not propose to hear this case any longer," Justice Subramanian noted.

It may be noted that the case (Company application) was posted before Justice Subramanian in compliance with the 30th July order of the Chief Justice. Now, the matter would go before another bench.
