Lawyers-Policemen Clash In Hapur: UP Bar Council Declares Statewide Strike On August 30, Seeks Action Against Erring Cops

The Council has also urged the Government to take action against errant police officers and to provide compensation to the injured lawyers.

The Council has further decided that if effective and meaningful action is not taken, then an emergency meeting of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh will be called on 3rd September 2023 and further strategy will be discussed in it.

For the uninitiated, in Uttar Pradesh District Hapur, lawyers were allegedly peacefully protesting peacefully against the filing of an alleged false case against Advocate Priyanka Tyagi. However, the police purportedly lathi-charged the lawyers at the alleged directions of a CO due to which many advocates sustained minor to severe injuries.

Taking note of the police action against lawyers, the High Court Bar Association Allahabad also declared yesterday that it would abstain from work today, i.e., 30^th August 2023.

Subsequently, the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh took cognizance of the matter and issued a letter stating that lawyers across the State of Uttar Pradesh will abstain from work today. The letter further urged the members of the Bar to reach Lucknow to meet with the Chief Minister.
