'Judiciary Should Contribute Beyond Judicial Sphere': MP High Court CJ Ravi Malimath Launches Initiative "Boond" To Help Underprivileged

Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Ravi Malimath launched the "Boond" initiative in his Independence Day address. CJ said that under this initiative, all the sitting judges of the Madhya Pradesh High Court have unanimously decided that each judge will contribute Rs 5,000 from his monthly salary for the upliftment of the underprivileged. CJ Malimath said, “At present, we have a strength of 33 judges. Thus, we will collect at least Rs 1,65,000 every month and thus 19,80,000 per year and this amount will be used for needy people for procuring essential items for them like food, water." Explaining about the initiative, the CJ said that the judiciary should contribute beyond the judicial sphere. Giving back to the society is a moral obligation, he said. CJ Malimath said, "When I made this proposal, the judges got excited. Glad to see this initiative. He said that the judiciary would make institutional contributions from time to time and on a regular basis."CJ Malimath said, "The judiciary has always stepped up when there have been natural calamities and other issues. We are also connected with various causes on an individual basis. However, we feel that this is not sufficient. God has been kind to us and it is our duty to give back to society, not just when disaster strikes but on a periodic and regular basis and on an institutional level." He said that this is the first of its kind initiative where the judiciary will undertake institutional contributions on a periodic and regular basis. "This amount may be viewed as large by some and small by others. For us, as an institution, it is a start" CJ said."Our initiative is called "Boond'". As all of you know, in Hindi, this means, "a drop". It signifies our humble initiative which is akin to a drop. It also alludes to the fact that a drop, though humble, makes a difference to the ocean. We sincerely hope that our modest contributions will make a positive difference to someone’s lives," he concluded.
