Five Additional Judges Of Madras High Court Made Permanent

The Central Government has issued a notification appointing Justices S Srimathy, Justice Bharatha Chakravarthy, Justice R Vijayakumar, Justice Mohammed Shaffiq and Justice Sathya Narayana Prasad as Permanent judges of the Madras High Court.
The Law Minister Kiren Rijiju made the announcement in a post on Twitter.
The Collegium had recommended the names of the judges in a meeting held on February 15 2023.
The Collegium of the High Court had recommended their permanent appointment on November 21, 2022. The Chief Minister and Governor concurred with the recommendation.
In order to ascertain the fitness and suitability of the Additional judges, consultation was held in terms of the Memorandum of Procedure with the Judges of the Supreme Court conversant with the affairs of the Madras High Court, the statement said.
A Judgment Evaluation Committee was also set up to assess the judgments of the Additional judges and its report was submitted.
