Senior Advocate Milind Sathe has been appointed as the Advocate General (AG) for Maharashtra and will be taking charge from Monday (December 8).
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis posted on X (earlier Twitter) confirming about the appointment of Sathe as the AG.
The CM's official handle, while confirming the development, said, "The State Cabinet approved the appointment of Milind Sathe as the new Advocate General of the State. He has handled many cases in the Bombay High Court and also the Supreme Court as a senior lawyer on behalf of the State Government. He has written extensively on various legal topics. The Cabinet congratulates him."
In the same post, the CMO also confirmed that the Cabinet has finally accepted the resignation of former AG and senior advocate Dr Birendra Saraf.
Notably, Saraf had resigned in September this year citing personal reasons after defending the State for 3 years. The CM has then requested him to continue at least till December 2025 till a new AG is appointed.
Accordingly, the State has now appointed Sathe as it's new AG.
Sathe joined the Bar in 1982 and has practiced majorly on the civil and original side of the Bombay High Court and also the Supreme Court. He has appeared for the State Government, and also for other public utilities likes the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), MHADA, MMRDA, State Pollution Control Board etc.
The new AG was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Bombay High Court in 2005 and has been a President of the Bombay Bar Association for seven years.
