Ministry of Road Transport And Highways has issued an advisory declaring extension of validity of documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act and the Central Motor vehicle Rules and for the relaxation of permit fees and taxes.

The advisory cited the order and guidelines issued by Ministry of Home Affairs in March 2020 to all Ministries and Departments in view of the complete lockdown executed in an attempt to contain the virus. Accordingly, the government had permitted the continuance of essential goods and services along with vehicles for their transport.

However, citizens faced difficulties to renew the validity of their documents under the said regulations amidst the lockdown, and long queues were anticipated before the Government Transport Offices. To avoid this situation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had issued several advisories across 2020 to all the States and UTs regarding extension of validity of certain documents till 30th June 2021.

Considering that the grim situation still continues, the Ministry found it appropriate to extend the validity of these documents including Fitness, Permit, Driving license and Registration till 30th September 2021. For that reason, all concerned documents under the said Acts which expired on 1st Feb 2020 or is due to expire before 30th September, would be deemed to valid till this date by the enforcement authorities.

The advisory mentioned that such measures were necessary to facilitate citizens to avail transport related services. All States and Union Territories were thereby advised to implement the advisory in letter and spirit such that citizens, transporters and their organizations do not face difficulties or harassment in this regard during these troubled times.
