The Madhya Pradesh High Court, while granting bail to a 'student' accused, directed him to perform digital detoxification of himself by not using Whatsapp, Facebook or other Social Media for two months.

Justice Anand Pathak also directed Harendra Tyagi, a student of Agriculture Science, to report about his digital detoxification at the concerned police station and to complete his study of Pre Agriculture Test (PAT)

Tyagi, who has been arrested and is in custody since 24th June, in connection with Crime under Sections 323, 294, 506/34, 327, 329 of the Indian Penal Code had approached the High Court seeking Bail. While granting him bail, apart from the usual conditions (including direction to install Arogya Setu App) imposed, Justice Pathak directed as follows:

  • Applicant shall remove himself from the WhatsApp and Facebook group and other Social Media groups for next two months and would not be present on any social media platform at all for two months for digital detoxification for personal reasons or for other reasons, otherwise bail shall be considered withdrawn.
  • Every month applicant shall have to submit report about his digital detoxification at the concerned police station and any default shall dis-entitle him from benefit of bail.
  • Applicant shall complete his study of PAT.

A further condition (which is made in Hindi) imposed is to plant five trees.
