A Special court in Mumbai remanded designer Aniksha Jaisinghani to police custody till March 21 in the case filed by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s wife Amruta Fadnavis.

Fadnavis has alleged that the Jaisinghani, a designer, attempted to bribe her with Rs 1 crore to seek her “intervention” in a criminal case involving Jaisinghani's father Anil Jaisinghani, who is a bookie.

Chief Public Prosecutor Jaising Desai informed the court that the accused has been booked under Sections 120B IPC and Sections 8 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He said charges of extortion have also been added.

Desai submitted the investigation was ongoing and listed 12 reasons while seeking her custody for seven days. He told the court that video clips have been sent to the FSL lab for testing. There were certain morphed photographs and Jaisinghani wanted to blackmail Fadnavis using them, the court was told

When she realised that Amruta Fadnavis wasn’t responding, she tried sending voice notes to threaten her, he said.

Desai pointed out that Jaisinghani was also booked in another criminal extortion case along with her father. While the father is absconding, she was in constant touch with him, Desai alleged.

Desai also said the police intended to inquire into why a demand of Rs. 10 crores was made from Fadnavis and if there was any political connection.

Jaisinghani's lawyer raised questions regarding the timing of the arrest and emphasized that his client was a young law student, while opposing remand.
