    The Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Lok Sabha through a written reply that there was no proposal with the Ministry for Electronics and Information Technology to amend the 'confidentiality clause' of the IT Blocking Rules.

    The answer was in response to an Unstarred Question whether the Government looks to amend the 'confidentiality clause' under the IT Blocking Rules to ensure that a person whose content has been removed has access to the legal order. The Unstarred Questions also sought to know the number of requests made by the Government to social media intermediaries for removal of content from their platform since 2014; and the number of meetings held under Rule 7 of the IT Blocking Rules 2009 before processing the removal request to the respect intermediaries since 2014.

    In response, the Minister furnished the following information:




    The Question has also sought the year-wise classification of the details of the reasons behind the requests made to these social media intermediaries. However, the reply does not enlist the reasons for issuing take-down/blocking orders.

    The Minister also states that all Blocking directions are issued following the due process as envisaged in the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking for Access of Information by Public) Rules, 2009.
