    The Orissa High Court has recorded 133.60% of Case Clearance Rate (CCR) in the year 2022. As per the press statement released by the High Court, the pending cases at the end of the year stood 34,352 cases less than what it was at the beginning of the year.     The Orissa High Court has recorded 133.60% of Case Clearance Rate (CCR) in the year 2022. As per the press statement released by the High Court, the pending cases at the end of the year stood 34,352 cases less than what it was at the beginning of the year. It further noted:

    “In the current year i.e. from 1st January, 2022 to 23rd December, 2022 (till Winter Holidays) 1,02,247 cases were instituted and a whopping 1,36,599 cases were disposed of at a Case Clearance Rate (CCR) of 133.60%. The opening balance of the year, 2022 was 1,96,662 cases and at present the pendency of case is considerably reduced as it stands now at 1,62,310 cases. In the current year, 8769 cases of more than 10-year-old were disposed of.”

    It also revealed, while 5,00,404 cases were instituted in the District Courts till 30th November, 2022, the corresponding figure for the whole year of 2021 was 4,34,810. Similarly, 4,47,733 cases were disposed off in 2022 by the District Court in comparison to 2,38,588 cases in 2021, which is 53.28% more than the preceding year.

    Further, 72,806 judgments were delivered in 2021 by the District Courts, while the corresponding figure as on 30th November, 2022 is 1,41,920. The percentage of delivery of judgments in 2022 is 51% more than the delivery of judgments in 2021.

    The average working strength of Judicial Officers in the State was 776 against the sanctioned strength of 977 in 2022. The per capita disposal was 577 cases in 2022. The statement further revealed the case clearance rate for the District Judiciary in 2021 ranged from 36.84% to 76.86% and in 2022 it went on to rise between 45.76% to 177.32%.

    The press release further uncovered statistics of rape and POCSO related matters and noted,

    “The disposal of Rape and POCSO cases was fast tracked. The total pendency of the above cases in the District Judiciary is 18,882 as on 30th November, 2022. Total 1,042 Rape cases were disposed of from 1st January, 2022 to 26th December, 2022, out of which 125 cases were disposed of within one year from the date of taking cognizance. Similarly, 3309 cases were disposed of in the District Judiciary for the corresponding period, out of which 660 cases were disposed of within the statutory period of one year from the date of taking cognizance of offence as delineated under Section 35(2) of the POCSO Act.”
