The Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Justice Mohammad Rafiq, on Tuesday (December 22), inaugurated e-Sewa Kendras in every District Court (except Cuttack District Court Complex) in the State.

He also inaugurated one e-Sewa Kendra at the Civil Court complex, Salipur (at Cuttack). This e-Sewa Kendra is in addition to the one that was installed at the Cuttack District Court Complex on May 15, 2020.

With this, Odisha now has a total of 32 e-Sewa Kendras, including one in every District Court complex with Cuttack having two e-Sewa Kendras and one e-Sewa Kendra in the Orissa High Court.

These e-Sewa Kendras have been conceptualized by the e-Committee of the Supreme Court, at the initiative of its Chairman, Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud, to act as "one-stop assistance centres" established in District & Subordinate Court Complexes for providing essential Court related services to needy stake holders of the Justice delivery system, who otherwise remain deprived of such services due to lack of access to technology.

All the e-Sewa Kendras were inaugurated simultaneously by Chief Justice Rafiq in the presence of Justice S. Pujahari, Chairman of the Computer Committee and other Judges of the Orissa High Court and the Advocate General, Odisha via video conferencing. All the District Judges and other Judicial Officers of different districts, Presidents, Secretaries and Advocates of all the District Bar Associations were also present during the event.

In his address, Chief Justice Rafiq highlighted the technology centric accomplishments made by the Orissa High Court and Subordinate Courts in recent times, particularly during the pandemic, to keep the justice delivery system accessible for the common man. He lauded the efforts of the High Court Computer Committee in taking a host of initiatives towards this end. It is significant to note here that during the period of pandemic, the High Court has decided more than 42,134 cases and the sub-ordinate Courts have disposed of 46,161 cases exclusively by virtual mode.

"The establishment of e-Sewa Kendras in every District Court complex added another milestone for the Orissa High Court to ensure that Advocates and litigants are brought closer to the justice delivery system through use of Information and Communication Technology," a press note issued by the High Court stated.
