Oxygen Shortage Amid COVID19 Surge: Rajasthan HC Bar Association Writes To Rajasthan High Court, Matter To Be Treated As PIL

Accepting the request of the association, Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty has treated letter highlighting the plight of Covid patients and the situation arising out of shortage in hospitals into a PIL.

In the letter, the Association's president, Bhuvnesh Sharma has alleged that State and Central Government were passing the buck and were not dealing with the emergent situation and that due to differences between the Government, the people of Rajasthan were suffering.

The letter by the association further states that in all the district of the State of Rajasthan, the patients admitted to the hospitals are witnessing a shortage of oxygen.

Referring to the media report, the letter has stated that with the increasing demand for Oxygen, the hospitals were facing a shortage of the same and that State and Central Government were passing the buck.

Lastly, the letter requested the Rajasthan High Court to intervene in the matter and give directions to both the governments to ensure sufficient supply of oxygen to the hospitals.

Further, the letter also states that as the Governments in the State and Centre are being ruled by different political parties, there exists a lack of coordination between them, and the real sufferers are the people of the State.

The matter has been listed today for hearing.

In related news, a dozen of Diagnostic centers of Jaipur have approached the Rajasthan High Court challenging the State's order capping prices of RT-PCR Tests for Covid-19 at Rs. 350/-.

The matter is likely to be heard tomorrow by a division bench headed by Chief Justice Indrajeet Mahanty.

The petition states that the charges fixed by the State Government are way below that actual costing to the Diagnostic Laboratories and thus, they will not be able to conduct the test at the capped price.
