The Co-ordination Committee of the three Bar associations of the Patna High Court has called upon advocates to abstain from judicial work on 15.05.2026 from 10:30 AM onwards, alleging growing friction between the Bar and the Bench and objecting to a notice dated 07.05.2026 issued under the signature of the Registrar General (in-charge).
In a resolution issued after an “extra ordinary situation” meeting, the Co-ordination Committee stated that members unanimously and unequivocally expressed anguish against the said notice.
The resolution alleged that the Bar at the Patna High Court has recently experienced a “growing rift” between the Bar and the Bench. It further alleged that the conduct of certain judges during court proceedings has been “uncharitable, uncouth often abusive insulting and hitting below the belt.”
The Committee also claimed that proceedings in some courts are conducted in a manner that creates an impression that judges consider themselves the sole repository of legal knowledge, adding that even senior members of the Bar are sometimes afraid to appear before certain judges. Referring to the notice issued by the Registry, the Committee stated that members of the Bar viewed it as reflective of the attitude of the administration towards advocates.
Accordingly, the Co-ordination Committee resolved that members of the Bar would abstain from professional duties on 15 May 2026 from 10:30 AM onwards.
The resolution bears signatures of office bearers of the Bar Association, Advocates' Association and Lawyers' Association of the Patna High Court.
