A petition has been filed before the Advocate General seeking permission to initiate contempt of court proceedings against dubbing artist and actor K. Bhagyalakshmi for her allegedly contemptuous remarks against the judiciary in the 2017 actor assault case.

The plea moved by Kerala High Court Advocate M.R. Dhanil is in light of the fact that Bhagyalakshmi had made certain remarks about the ongoing trial of the actor assault case while speaking at a public function organised at Sahitya Akademi in Thrissur.

She had reportedly alleged that the trial court had already finalised and written its judgment in the case and that what was happening now was nothing but 'drama'. She had also said that all that remained in the case was a day to announce the verdict and that everything else was already fixed.

The dubbing artist also commented that the survivor in the 2017 case was not yet served justice only because she does not have crores to spare while adding that only rich people could afford to get justice these days.

The petition alleges that this statement amounts to contempt of court and that it degrades the judiciary. Accordingly, it sought sanction from the Advocate General to initiate contempt proceedings against her for the same.
