The Chairman of Punjab and Haryana Bar Council has written a letter (in his personal capacity) to the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to take Suo moto cognizance regarding major security lapse in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Security during his recent visit to Punjab.

The Letter has been written by Minderjeet Yadav seeking indulgence of the Chief Justice of the High Court for taking cognizance of the major security lapse w.r.t. a high threat perception individual/SPG's blue book protectee, due to the sketchy approach of the Government of Punjab.

The letter avers that the efforts of the Punjab Government were nothing short of cynical connivance with BKU Krantikari (Phool), Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (PKMSC), and BKU (Ugrahan) when the PM's convoy was blocked at the flyover near village Piareana in the Ghall Khurd tehsil of Ferozepur district while en route to National Martyrs' Memorial at Ferozepur's Hussainiwala village on the border with Pakistan.

The letter also states that the PM was left totally exposed atop an unsecured flyover for over 15-20 mins i.e. only kms away from the India–Pakistan Border. He has also stated that the Punjab government failed to make necessary arrangements for logistics, security as well as keep a contingency plan ready.

"In all earnest, taking the liberty, I seek to write to Your Lordship, humbly suggesting to take suo moto cognisance and consider setting up a Commission of Enquiry to judiciously examine evidences like Advance Security Liaison (ASL) reports, central and state inputs, protectee's itinerary, state security audits, police route maps, IB clearance certificates, federal checking mechanism, alternatives & contingency plans, local intelligence diaries etc. to reach an appropriate conclusion to ascertain whether there is a visible breakdown of constitutional machinery in the State. This extreme action may just be required to discipline a rogue state government and fix accountability for their omissions and commissions," the Letter further states.

In related news, rhe security lapse during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Punjab was mentioned before the Chief Justice of India today morning. Senior Advocate Maninder Singh mentioned the matter before the CJI and requested the Court to take up a writ petition seeking a judicial probe into the incident urgently.

The CJI asked the senior counsel to serve the copy to Punjab Government and agreed to hear the matter tomorrow.
