The High Court Bar Association, Allahabad has decided to abstain from judicial after lunch today and tomorrow as a mark to protest against the proposal to elevate certain advocates as HC Judges who are purportedly not practicing before the Allahabad High Court.

A notification in this regard was released today by the HCBA, Allahabad informing that it has decided to abstain from Judicial work and sought the court's cooperation in that regard.

The notification comes in the backdrop of a resolution passed by the Oudh Bar Association, Lucknow to abstain from judicial work for 2 days as a mark to protest against the proposal sent by the High Court collegium to the Supreme Court Collegium to elevate certain advocates who are not practicing before the Allahabad High Court (either of the benches).

Though the notification of the HCBA, Allahabad doesn't state specifically that it is supporting the cause raised by the Oudh Bar Association, a senior member of the HCBA, Allahabad told Live Law that they want that only those advocates who are practicing before the Allahabad High Court be considered for elevation.

He also said that the resolution passed to abstain from judicial work is related to this very demand of the bar that no 'outsiders' be appointed as the Judges of the High Court.

It may be noted that last week a letter was written by the President of the Oudh Bar Association, Rakesh Chaudhary addressing CJI UU Lalit requesting him not to propose the elevation of advocates practicing in the Supreme Court as Allahabad High Court Judges.

As per the report of The Indian Express, the Allahabad High Court recently recommended the names of 16 lawyers for appointment as judges of the high court. The report says that in the first week of September, the Collegium, led by Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal had sent its list which includes a woman lawyer.
