    Rajasthan Government has constituted a high-level committee to prepare the draft of the Rajasthan Uniform Civil Code, 2026 (RUCC), to be headed by the former Supreme Court Judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.

    Additional Chief Secretary (Home) shall serve as the Member-Secretary of the Committee.

    The announcement was made by the Cabinet Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Law & Legal Affairs, Legal Consultancy, and Justice, Mr. Jogaram Patel, and the Minister of State for Home, Mr. Jawahar Singh Bedham, during a press conference held on June 22, 2026.

    Other members of the 5-member Committee include, retired IAS officer, Mr. Shatrughna Singh; Rajasthan High Court AAG, Basant Singh Chhaba, former Principal of Government Law College (Ganganagar), Mr. Ramswaroop Agarwal, and Dr. Shuchi Chauhan.

    While addressing the press conference, it was communicated that the proposed UCC framework shall include provisions on, marriage, divorce, prohibition of polygamy, mandatory registration of live-in relationship, equal rights for men and women in ancestral properties, etc.

    Further, it was highlighted that public consultations shall be held by the Committee which shall also gather public opinions and suggestions via a dedicated online platform.

    The decision was taken on April 14, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister of the state.
