Rajasthan High Court Settles Over 20,000 Cases In NALSA's 90-Day Nationwide Mediation Drive

The Rajasthan High Court, along with its District and Taluka Courts, has demonstrated exceptional success in the recently concluded nationwide 90-Day Special Mediation Drive – 'Mediation For The Nation', a major initiative by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court of India. The campaign, which ran from July 1 to September 30, 2025, aimed to significantly reduce case backlogs through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Under the supervision and guidance of Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, the Acting Chief Justice, Rajasthan High Court & Executive Chairman, RSLSA, the concerted efforts of the judiciary, trained mediators, and the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority (RSLSA) have resulted in the successful settlement of 20,724 cases (Twenty Thousand Seven Hundred and Twenty Four) across the state, marking a significant milestone. The Rajasthan High Court adopted a highly proactive case referral strategy, successfully referring 1,52,436 cases (One Lakh Fifty Two Thousand Four Hundred and Thirty Six) to the mediation centers by Rajasthan High Court, District and Taluka Courts. With a successful settlement of 20,724 cases in the 90 days mediation drive, the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority could be one of the best performances among all SLSAs. Out of the total matters referred during the drive, almost 30,000 cases are still pending for settlement and continuous efforts are being made for amicable settlement in these matters by the mediators. In order to deal with the matters referred for mediation, at present, there are 180 mediation centers with total number of 1017 trained mediators across the state and 217 new mediators were also empaneled. Looking at the need of the hour, appointment for new mediators is also under process. Inspired by this 90 days drive of “Mediation for the Nation” campaign, RSLSA has opened its doors for all the litigants to continuously get their disputes/pending cases, referred and settled through Mediation. All Mediation Centers at RSLSA and DLSAs Rajasthan are eager and willing to work in parallel to Judicial Courts and make continuous efforts for amicable dispute resolution through Mediation, contributing to reduce pendency in courts. Member Secretary, RSLSA was appointed as the Nodal Officer for the 90 days drive, for coordinated efforts and innovative measures like online mediation, targeted settlement drives and personalized follow-ups were employed. These results underscore the drive's effectiveness with enthusiastic participation from litigants, advocates and trained mediators. The amicable disposal of cases, some of which had been pending for several years, has provided much-needed relief to thousands of litigants who can now avoid the protracted nature of traditional litigation. The success of this 90-day campaign is a testament to the dedication of mediators and the judiciary's commitment to prioritizing peace over adversarial litigation. Mediation offers a cost-effective, confidential, and mutually satisfactory resolution, which is vital for maintaining social harmony.
