    The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday recommended transfer of nine Judges/ Chief Justices to various High Courts.     The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday recommended transfer of nine Judges/ Chief Justices to various High Courts.

    It has recommended to transfer:

    • Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, Justice RS Chauhan to Uttarakhand High Court;
    • Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice JK Maheshwari to Sikkim High Court;
    • Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Justice Mohammad Rafiq to Madhya Pradesh High Court;
    • Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, Justice AK Goswami to Andhra Pradesh High Court;
    • Justice Sanjay Yadav of Madhya Pradesh High Court to Allahabad High Court;
    • Justice Rajesh Bindal of Jammu & Kashmir High Court to Calcutta High Court;
    • Justice Vineet Kothari of Madras High Court to Gujarat High Court;
    • Justice Joymalya Bagchi of Calcutta High Court to Andhra Pradesh High Court;
    • Justice Satish Chandra Sharma of Madhya Pradesh High Court to Karnataka High Court.

    Inter alia, the Collegium has recommended elevation of Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court and Justice Hima Kohli as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court.

    It has also proposed the appointment of Justice Sanjib Banerjee as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Justice Pankaj Mithal as Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

    About the Judges:

    Justice Chauhan was appointed as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court on June 23, 2019. Prior to this, he was a Judge at the said High Court, apart from having served as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court and the Karnataka High Court.

    Justice Maheshwari was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in September 2019. Earlier, he was a Judge at the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

    Justice Rafiq was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court on 27th April, 2020. Prior to this, he was the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court from 13th November, 2019 to 26th April, 2020. Earlier, he served as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court starting from May 2006.

    Justice Goswami was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on January 24, 2011 and became a permanent Judge w.e.f. November 7, 2012. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court on October 15, 2019.

    Justice Yadav was appointed as a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on March 2, 2007 and as a Permanent Judge on January 15, 2010. He was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court with effect from October 6, 2019 till November 2, 2019.
    He was then appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on September 30, 2020.

    Justice Bindal was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on December 8, 2020. He was transferred to the J&K High Court on 19th November, 2018, from the Punjab & Haryana High Court where he was elevated as a Judge on March 22, 2006.

    Justice Kothari was appointed as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court on June 13, 2005. He was transferred to the Karnataka High Court on April 18, 2016. He assumed the office as a Senior Judge of the Madras High Court on November 23, 2018 and was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court between September 21, 2019 till November 10, 2019.

    Justice Bagchi was appointed as a Judge at the Calcutta High Court on 27th June, 2011.

    Justice Sharma was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on 18th January, 2008 and was made a Permanent Judge on 15th January, 2010.
