The Delhi High Court was today informed by a major city hospital, on the plea of a 76-year old senior citizen critically ailing from Covid-19, that though the Covid-19 information portal of Delhi government was showing 1 ICU bed as being available, infact there were "several patients already in the waiting and hence no bed is available."

With the second deadlier wave of the Covid-19 pandemic wrecking the capital, the health infrastructure in the country has been undergoing an imminent collapse, leaving individuals scrambling around for basic facilities like oxygen supply and ICU beds in hospitals.

While earlier the Delhi High Court was faced with a slew of petitions moved by major hospitals seeking urgent oxygen supply, now individuals too have started moving the court seeking urgent intervention to save lives.

In one such case before the bench of Justice Prathiba Singh earlier today of one Gajinder Pal Singh, the counsel for All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi informed Court that there was a line of people in waiting for 1 ICU bed said to be available at the hospital.

Upon its beckoning, the Jaipur Golden Hospital also informed the Court that though ICU beds were available in its facility, the hospital was currently not taking admissions due to shortage in oxygen supply.

Subsequently, the Additional Standing Counsel for the Government of Delhi, Gautam Narayan, informed the Court that arrangements had been made to provide the septuagenarian a hospital bed in the Lok Narayan Jai Prakash Hospital in LNJP Colony. An ambulance was also dispatched to convey the petitioner to the hospital from his residence.
