    The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of the present Acting Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Justice Sanjay Yadav as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court.

    The Supreme Court Collegium is presently headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana. Besides the Chief Justice Of India, Justices R. F. Nariman, U. U. Lalit and A. M. Khanwilkar, and  Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud are part of the five-judge Collegium.

    The Central Government had appointed Justice Sanjay Yadav, the senior-most judge of the Allahabad High Court, as the Acting Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from April 14, 2021.

    The decision came as the term of the incumbent Chief Justice, Justice Govind Mathur, was set to expire on April 13, 2021, upon his retirement.

    Justice Yadav enrolled as an Advocate on August 25, 1986 and practised in the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur. He served as the Deputy Advocate General of Madhya Pradesh.

    He was elevated as a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on March 2, 2007 and was made a Permanent Judge on January 15, 2010.

    He was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court with effect from October 06, 2019 till November 02, 2019 and from September 30, 2020 till January 02, 2021. He was transferred to the Allahabad High Court on January 08, 2021.

    About Justice (Retired) Govind Mathur

    Justice Mathur began his legal career as a law practitioner before the Rajasthan High Court at Jodhpur. He worked as the Standing Counsel for University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, Indian Oil Corporation, Water & Power Consultancy Services, New Delhi.

    He also worked as the Standing Counsel for National Teacher's Education Council, Rajasthan Vidyapeeth, Bhilwara Central Co-operative Bank, Central Bank of India, Thar Anchalik Gramin Bank and Punjab National Bank. he was transferred to Allahabad High Court and took oath as a Judge on November 21, 2017.

    He was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court from October 24, 2018.

    He took oath as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court on November 14, 2018.
