    The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea seeking a direction to the government to test the efficacy of a new Ayurvedic remedy for COVID.

    "The efforts of the government are concentrated on dealing with the pandemic – the issue of hospitalisation, the availability of essential drugs, vaccination. We cannot let it be diverted to testing the claim of efficacy of new medicines", said Justice D. Y. Chandrachud.
    The bench, also comprising Justices R. Subhash Reddy and Ravindra Bhat, observed that the instant issue is a matter of policy in the realm of public health and that it is not for the Court, under Article 32, to sit in assessment of the efficacy of a remedy claimed to have been developed by the petitioner.
    The bench even refused to grant liberty to the petitioner to make a representation to the Ministry of Ayush in this behalf.
    "Then you will want the Secretary, Ministry of Ayush to be held in contempt for not giving a reasoned order as to why your formula is not approved", remarked Justice Chandrachud.
    The advocate appearing for the petitioner-doctor advanced;
    "The medicine has cured 300-400 people within 2-3 days! I have personally experienced it and so has my family! I am ready to give the formula, my medicine to the government! Let the Ministry of Ayush, the ICMR test it!"
    "The statistics of 300 persons is not valid for anyone to issue such a direction. Under Article 32, the Supreme Court cannot go into whether an Ayurvedic remedy for COVID is efficacious or not", said Justice Chandrachud.
    "Why should we even touch this plea? Why should we set the government on this wild goose-chase?", commented Justice Bhat.
    "We will have 100s of persons coming to the Court, asking for their invention to be tested. We have to draw the line somewhere", said Justice Reddy.
