Telangana National Lok Adalat Settles Over 9.28 Lakh Cases, Awards Compensation Worth ₹422 Crore

The 2nd National Lok Adalat, organized across Telangana on June 20, 2026, settled a total of 9,28,322 cases, including 3,80,292 pre-litigation cases and 5,48,030 pending court cases, with compensation amounting to ₹422 crore awarded to beneficiaries.The National Lok Adalat was conducted in pursuance of directions issued by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and covered the entire State of Telangana, including the High Court, for settlement of pending and pre-litigation disputes across various categories, including consumer and labour matters.The programme was organized under the guidance of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court for the State of Telangana and Patron-in-Chief, Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA); Justice P. Sam Koshy, Executive Chairman, TSLSA; and Justice K. Lakshman, Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee. A total of 353 Lok Adalat Benches were constituted across the State, including 349 benches in judicial districts, two benches in the High Court, and two benches at the Debt Recovery Tribunals, Hyderabad.To maximize settlements, Justice P. Sam Koshy interacted with Principal District Judges-cum-Chairpersons and Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities and also convened a virtual conference with the Director General of Police, Director of Prosecution and Commissioners of Police, emphasizing the need to focus on long-pending cases.As a special initiative, the TSLSA focused on the disposal of long-pending civil and criminal cases through Pre-Lok Adalat sittings involving all stakeholders. Ch. Panchakshari, Member Secretary, TSLSA, appealed to litigants to make effective use of Lok Adalats, stating that such settlements save judicial time, promote harmony between parties and bring finality to disputes.Notable SettlementsAmong the significant settlements, the District Legal Services Authority, Nizamabad, recorded the amicable settlement of a high-value motor accident claim in which ₹1.10 crore was awarded to the family members of a deceased victim. The settlement was facilitated after TATA AIG Insurance Company voluntarily agreed to resolve the dispute through the Lok Adalat mechanism.Justice P. Sam Koshy also visited the District Legal Services Authority, Hyderabad (Nampally Sessions Division), where he interacted with litigants whose cases had been settled and handed over Lok Adalat Awards after confirming that the settlements had been arrived at voluntarily and without coercion.Another notable achievement was the settlement of a criminal case registered as Crime No. 39 of 2009 of Habeeb Nagar Police Station, bringing an end to a dispute that had remained pending for nearly 16 years. The complainant and the accused entered into a comprehensive compromise covering three interconnected matters pending between them, following the intervention of the Court and the efforts of their respective counsels.In Adilabad district, 18 Land Acquisition Execution Petitions were closed after the Government of Telangana deposited ₹65,33,437 towards compensation. The press release states that, owing to the efforts of Justice P. Sam Koshy and the cooperation of Advocate General A. Sudarshan Reddy, the Government sanctioned and deposited ₹17,61,14,875 towards compensation in various land acquisition execution petitions across the State, providing relief to affected landowners and reducing long-pending litigation.High Court Lok AdalatAt the High Court for the State of Telangana, Justice Renuka Yara and Justice Suddala Chalapathi Rao headed two Lok Adalat Benches that facilitated the amicable settlement of 176 pending cases. In the settled motor accident compensation matters, ₹8,96,59,600 was awarded to claimants, providing expeditious financial relief.The TSLSA stated that the response from litigants and stakeholders reaffirmed the effectiveness of the Lok Adalat system as a speedy, cost-effective and people-friendly mechanism for dispute resolution.
