Telangana State Legal Services Authority Inaugurates Legal Services Clinics For Defence Personnel & Their Families Across 8 Districts

The Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) on August 26 virtually inaugurated the Legal Services Clinics in Zila Sainik Boards across the State, while also releasing the Telugu version of the NALSA theme Song "Ek Muthi Aasman". This initiative aims to provide free and competent legal services to Defence Personnel, Ex-servicemen, and their families across the country in all the State Sainik Welfare Boards and District Sainik Welfare Boards.The program was attended by Telangana High Court Chief Justice AK Singh who is the Patron-in-chief the TSLSA and Executive Chairman of TSLSA Justice P. Sam Koshy among others.During the event the Chief Justice praised the current initiative as fulfilling a "long-standing dream" under the visionary leadership of NALSA. He said:“Today is 26th August, within one month, the Legal Services Authority has been able to establish “legal services clinics” in eight more districts of the state. This is the kind of proactive approach of the Legal Services Authority of the state of Telangana. It's such an imaginative and thoughtful move to reach out to defence personnel, ex-defence personnel and their dependents with legal aid and legal assistance at their doorstep. This idea which was conceived by the NALSA under the chairmanship of Hon'ble Sri Justice Suryakant Ji, Judge Supreme court of India. This was a long-standing dream. In fact, I have been associated with Legal Services Authority since long, and I remember in 2014, 15, 16 also, such a move was contemplated at our level in Jharkhand by the then Chief Justice. But it couldn't be brought down to the actual ground level. But due to the visionary leadership of his Lordship Chairman NALSA and the Honourable CJI, this “legal services clinics” availing benefit of the Scenic Welfare Boards spread throughout the country is being set up. This is going to help the members of family of defence and ex-defence personnel in a long, long way”Meanwhile Justice Koshy outlined the comprehensive nature of assistance available, ranging from matrimonial and domestic issues to boundary disputes with neighbours. He emphasized that the clinics would serve as facilitators for families whose serving members are posted at remote borders, ensuring they receive necessary legal support without the burden of navigating complex administrative processes.Justice Koshy announced plans to extend the initiative to all 33 districts in Telangana with continued cooperation from the Sainik Welfare Boards.Under the scheme, one Panel Lawyer and one Para Legal Volunteer are deputed by DLSA and they will be sitting in these Legal Service Clinics who attends from 10.00 am to 2 5.00 pm and render their free legal services to the needy ex-servicemen and their family members who ever approach these clinics for legal aid.The event was organised under the aegis of 'NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana, 2025' - a nationwide initiative launched on July 26, 2025, by Supreme Court judge Justice Surya Kant who is also the Executive Chairman of NALSA.Recently the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA) had also virtually launched legal services clinic in 11 districts in the State under the same scheme. The NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana, 2025 was launched during the North Zone Regional conference in Jammu and Kashmir. Telangana had initially established clinics in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts on July 26, 2025, making the current expansion particularly noteworthy for its rapid implementation.The initiative aligns with Article 39A of the Constitution and the Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987, representing a significant step toward ensuring equal access to justice for the defense community across India.The simultaneous release of the NALSA theme song "Ek Muthi Aasman" in Telugu demonstrates TSLSA's commitment to broader outreach and inclusivity, ensuring local communities can connect more effectively with legal services in their native language.
