    The Central Government on Thursday appointed three Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court as permanent Judges of that High Court.

    They are:

    • Justice Manish Choudhury
    • Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi
    • Justice Nani Tagia

    Justice Choudhury was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court on January 18, 2019 whereas Justices Medhi and Tagia were appointed on November 19, 2018.

    Justice Choudhury obtained his degree in Law from the Gauhati University. He enrolled himself in the Bar Council of Assam in August 1999 and practiced mainly in the Principal Seat. He was a Standing Counsel for the Directorate of Land Records, Assam from 2009 to 2016 and Senior Standing Counsel, Higher Education Department, Assam during 2014 to 2016. He was a retainer counsel for a number of organizations, companies and PSUs. He was appointed as the Member of the State Law Commission, Assam in June 2015 and was designated as Senior in April 2017.

    Justice Medhi obtained his degree in Law from the Delhi University and enrolled himself as an Advocate for the North East Bar Council in November 1994. He started his practice with Jain Hansaria & Company but returned to Guwahati in July 1995 to practice. He was appointed as the Standing Counsel of the Gauhati High Court in the year 2012, which he continued till his elevation in 2018. In April 2017, he was designated as a Senior Advocate and in November, 2017 he was appointed as the Additional Advocate General, Assam.

    Justice Tagia obtained his degree in Law from the Delhi University. He was designated as Senior Advocate by the Gauhati High Court in August 2014.
